Black Ice

I love him. A lot of people in the hood would understand what he is talking about. His words are strong and he is real. You can tell that he has expierience and he feels what he is talking about. " Ignorance is Bliss, And Niggas Love This" I just don't understand the whole point of the poem, like his message, but i liked a lot of his messages. He curses a lot though. I could tell that he had some rapper in im. I also like how he talked about social class and how the government corrupted the hood. He used a lot of similies and metaphors, and his assonance made his poem flow nicely. His words had me on the edge of my seat.

Sarah Kay

Sarah Kay's poem was really great. I love the way she connected different things. One of my favorite parts was when she spoke about trying to save someone and the same people you are tryin to save are stepping on her cape. I love the fact that she doesnt only speak about the good, but she also shows the bad. Her style of poetry was cute and lovable and also girly.

SLAMNATION

The Slam Nation contest was really interesting. I found it amusing that Poetry can really be an performance. When the Group from Austin, Texas did their collaborative poem I was amazed. They incorporated sound effects into it and it made it really fun to watch. Everything they did seemed really realistic and I like that, even though I feel that is a tad bit over the top for me.Another thing liked was when the Asian guy from New York performed the poem about Asian Men being hung like horses. It was a really funny poem and even though he was yelling and screaming I feel that he did it in the right times that made it work well with the purpose of his poem.

Never Give All The Heart

Never give all the heart, for love
Will hardly seem worth thinking of
To passionate women if it seem
Certain, and they never dream
That it fades out from kiss to kiss;
For everything that's lovely is
But a brief, dreamy, kind delight.
O never give the heart outright,
For they, for all smooth lips can say,
Have given their hearts up to the play.
And who could play it well enough
If deaf and dumb and blind with love?
He that made this knows all the cost,
For he gave all his heart and lost.

What Do Women Want ?

I want a red dress.
I want it flimsy and cheap,
I want it too tight, I want to wear it
until someone tears it off me.
I want it sleeveless and backless,
this dress, so no one has to guess
what's underneath. I want to walk down
the street past Thrifty's and the hardware store
with all those keys glittering in the window,
past Mr. and Mrs. Wong selling day-old
donuts in their café, past the Guerra brothers
slinging pigs from the truck and onto the dolly,
hoisting the slick snouts over their shoulders.
I want to walk like I'm the only
woman on earth and I can have my pick.
I want that red dress bad.
I want it to confirm
your worst fears about me,
to show you how little I care about you
or anything except what
I want. When I find it, I'll pull that garment
from its hanger like I'm choosing a body
to carry me into this world, through
the birth-cries and the love-cries too,
and I'll wear it like bones, like skin,
it'll be the goddamned
dress they bury me in.

I'm Not Lonely
i'm not lonely
sleeping all alone

you think i'm scared
but i'm a big girl
i don't cry
or anything

i have a great
big bed
to roll around
in and lots of space
and idon't dream
bad dreams
like i used
to have that you
were leaving me
anymore

now that you're gone
i don't dream
and no matter
what you think
i'm not lonely
sleeping
all alone

Favorite lines poem

my throat Is deep with song,
You do not think I suffer
after I have held my pain
So long? Pain taking over,
consuming my very being.
I try to hide it, but the tears
begin to break through my concrete
outer layer. I said i wouldnt,
dammit: No tears.
